Help beauty professionals join the fight against skin cancer.

At SCAN, we empower beauty professionals to save lives in their every day profession. With our specialized training, hairstylists and estheticians can spot potential signs of skin cancer and guide their clients to licensed dermatologists for timely diagnosis and treatment.

OUR FOUNDER

Stephen W. Gibson

Without the help of his hairdresser, Debbie Gale, Steve would have been unaware of the melanoma growing in silence on his scalp. Inspired by his own experience, Steve piloted a program to train beauty professionals at beauty schools in Utah on how to spot potentially dangerous skin lesions and refer their clients to certified dermatologists. Steve is on a mission to extend the program to as many beauty professionals as possible. Through this initiative, Steve hopes to make a significant impact in detecting skin cancer early and save lives.

Our Mission

At SCAN, we focus on education and awareness. Skin cancer develops primarily on areas of sun-exposed skin, including the scalp, face, lips, ears, and neck. We aim to provide beauty professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize signs of abnormalities in these areas, and we empower them to feel confident in suggesting doctor visits to their clients.
